Many of us (myself included) have cursed God, blamed Him, and / or taken His name in vain in our hearts for something that didn’t go our way. For example, I once blamed God in my heart for not getting a good night’s sleep. Was it His fault? No, it was my own fault for drinking strong coffee too late in the evening.
Many times we do this unintentionally because we as Christians know that it is sin to blame God (see Job 1:22). Yet, in our unconscious mind, we truly believe that it is God’s fault. So, what is the solution?
We need a revelation of God’s goodness. We need to experience His goodness. Psalm 1o3, in my opinion, is one of the best illustrations of God’s goodness. However, unless we have a revelation, unless we truly experience His goodness firsthand, these may be just words on a page without real meaning.
When we find ourselves cursing God, blaming Him, and / or taking His name in vain in our hearts we should first confess it to God as sin and receive His forgiveness. Secondly, I believe that it is helpful to renew our minds by looking at examples of His goodness in the Bible. Psalm 1o3 is a great place to start. Finally, let us pray that God would give us a revelation of His goodness and that He would allow us to experience it directly.
Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, thank you for being a good God. One who loves us, accepts us, has mercy on us, and forgives us. Please forgive us for cursing You, blaming You, and / or taking Your name in vain in our hearts. I pray that You would reveal to each of us your goodness today in whatever way You choose. Whether it is through a kind, loving friend, Your Word, in prayer, or some other way. May each one of us experience your goodness so that any beliefs that we have to the contrary may be burned away. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
I always learn something new
I always learn something new
I like the information that you wrote here. Keep up the good work.
I’m sick of God. For years I’ve tried to “serve” him – pray and read etc. But I cannot do it. I’ve regularly attended church twice a week. I don’t think it’s made me a better person. Sometimes I’m angry with myself because I’m so weak, but often I’m angry with God since he is in control. I’ve resigned myself to burning in hell – at times I wish I could punish God.
I didn’t ask to be created. God forced us all into existence.
Jaxon:
I understand your pain. I’ve been through it. Let me try to give you the best answer that I can.
God is not mad at you and does not hate you. Actually, it’s quite to the contrary, He loves you very much and wants you to have abundant life. And, if you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, then you are saved and definitely will not burn in hell.
We are all weak and unable to serve God in our own strength. In fact, we often times try so hard and fail so miserably. We have hurts, hang-ups, and habits (addictions) that we just can’t seem to break. We feel helpless, hopeless, and depressed.
We fail God and fall on a daily basis. We are confused and don’t know what to do.
You are not alone Jaxon in your pain. Many, many people feel the same way and have given up on God. I encourage you not to give up on God.
He loves you very dearly and wants to heal you. He understands your weakness and pain, and loves you anyway. In fact, you (and me) are the reason that Jesus came to Earth to die, for weak, miserable sinners who know how bad they are, not for people who think they are righteous.
Christianity is a life long process and is not easy. We have an enemy, the Devil, who wants to take us out, to kill us, steal from us, and destroy us. We must learn to fight. We also must renew our minds on a daily basis. We have come to believe so many lies about ourselves, God, and others. We must ask God to reveal the truth to us and heal us.
I would encourage you to talk to God and tell him what you are feeling. Pour your heart out to Him. Everything. Confess to Him that you are weak and unable to serve Him in your own strength, and that you need His help. Ask him to forgive you for your sins.
Then, wait quietly for Him to answer you.
The journey of life is hard, and long. We all need someone to walk it with. I would encourage you to find a close Christian friend or accountability partner that you can share your deepest feelings with.
I will be more than happy to walk this journey with you as well. Just contact me via email (garyleemillner [AT] gmail [DOT] com) and we can continue to dialogue.
I would encourage you to visit http://www.newlifeprovidence.com/ and to listen to Pastor Dan Backen’s sermons. He speaks the truth of the Bible and reveals God’s true character like very few people can.
I hope that this helps and remember that you are not alone. We’re all in this journey together.
With brotherly love,
Gary
